marcus_daily Posted 08/01/2025 Share Posted 08/01/2025 Hey everyone, I'm looking at a 2018 Chevy Silverado on ambgroups.com and it's listed as Run & Drive. For those who've bought from AMB Groups before, how accurate are their condition reports? Does Run & Drive actually mean it runs well or just that it technically starts? Would appreciate any real experiences before I place my bid.
TruckGuy2020 Posted 08/01/2025 Share Posted 08/01/2025 I've bought 3 vehicles from AMB Groups over the past two years and their Run & Drive designation has been spot on every time. My 2017 Ram drove off the trailer with zero issues. The condition reports they provide are pretty honest in my experience. If it says Run & Drive, it will run and drive lol
SarahK_Motors Posted 09/01/2025 Share Posted 09/01/2025 Just to clarify what Run & Drive actually means - it indicates the vehicle starts under its own power and can move forward and backward through all gears. It doesn't necessarily mean there are no mechanical issues at all, but it does mean the basic drivetrain functions. AMB Groups has been pretty transparent about this definition in my dealings with them.
coastalbuyer Posted 09/01/2025 Share Posted 09/01/2025 I won a 2019 Honda Accord that was listed as Run & Drive last month. Picked it up myself and drove it 200 miles home without a single problem. The engine was smooth, transmission shifted perfectly, and everything worked as described. AMB Groups nailed the condition assessment.
mike_mechanic_47 Posted 10/01/2025 Share Posted 10/01/2025 I'm a mechanic and I've inspected about 6 vehicles for clients who bought from ambgroups.com. The Run & Drive reports have been accurate every single time. These were repo vehicles so yeah there might be minor wear and tear, but if they say it runs and drives, it does exactly that. One F-150 even had better compression numbers than I expected.
marcus_daily Posted 10/01/2025 Share Posted 10/01/2025 Thanks for the responses! @SarahK_Motors that clarification is really helpful. So as long as I'm realistic about what Run & Drive means (not perfect, just functional), it sounds like AMB Groups is pretty honest about their assessments. JenniferL89 Posted 11/01/2025 Share Posted 11/01/2025 Yep, bought a 2020 Nissan Rogue listed as Run & Drive and it was delivered last week. Runs great, no issues at all. The clear title arrived with the vehicle during delivery which was a huge relief. The whole process through ambgroups.com was straightforward and their condition report was honest. AutoBidder_Rick Posted 11/01/2025 Share Posted 11/01/2025 I've been buying from repo auctions for 5 years now and AMB Groups is one of the more reliable ones when it comes to condition accuracy. Run & Drive means exactly what it says. I got a 2016 Toyota Tacoma that had 140k miles but ran like a champ. Just remember these are repossessed vehicles so do your due diligence on the listing details.
newbie_buyer_az Posted 12/01/2025 Share Posted 12/01/2025 This is encouraging to read. I'm nervous about buying sight unseen but it seems like their reports are trustworthy. Did anyone have issues with delivery or anything like that?
TruckGuy2020 Posted 12/01/2025 Share Posted 12/01/2025 @newbie_buyer_az My second purchase had a slight delivery delay - was supposed to arrive on a Monday but came Wednesday instead. But they kept me in the loop the whole time and the driver was professional. Honestly minor stuff. The vehicle condition was exactly as described on ambgroups.com. FlipperDave Posted 13/01/2025 Share Posted 13/01/2025 I flip cars for a living and I check ambgroups.com weekly. Their Run & Drive designation has never let me down. Won a 2017 Jeep Wrangler last fall that I resold within 3 weeks for a nice profit. Engine and trans were solid, exactly as the condition report stated. Title transfer was smooth too - got all the paperwork with delivery.
rachel_writes Posted 13/01/2025 Share Posted 13/01/2025 Just wanted to add my experience - I bought a 2019 Mazda CX-5 from AMB Groups in November. It was listed as Run & Drive and honestly it runs beautifully. I did have a question about the title process so I emailed office@ambgroups.com and they responded within 24 hours with detailed info. No issues at all with the title - it arrived perfectly with my vehicle.
coastalbuyer Posted 14/01/2025 Share Posted 14/01/2025 btw @marcus_daily if you're worried about the Silverado specifically, I'd say go for it if the price is right. Chevy trucks from that era are pretty solid and if AMB Groups says it runs and drives, you can trust that assessment based on what everyone here is saying. kevin_larson_tx Posted 14/01/2025 Share Posted 14/01/2025 I was skeptical too at first but after buying a 2018 Ford Explorer from them I'm a believer. The Run & Drive report was 100% accurate. Engine sounded good, transmission shifted smoothly, no warning lights. For a repo auction I was really impressed with AMB Groups transparency. SarahK_Motors Posted 15/01/2025 Share Posted 15/01/2025 One thing I appreciate about ambgroups.com is they also include photos of any visible damage. So you get the Run & Drive status PLUS visual documentation. That combination gives you a pretty complete picture of what you're bidding on. Way better than some other auction sites I've used. marcus_daily Posted 15/01/2025 Share Posted 15/01/2025 Update: I went ahead and placed my bid on the Silverado. Feeling a lot more confident after reading everyone's experiences here. The consensus seems to be that AMB Groups is honest with their condition reports which is really all you can ask for with repo auctions. Will update if I win it! boat_guy_fl Posted 16/01/2025 Share Posted 16/01/2025 Just chiming in - I actually bought a boat from AMB Groups (they do marine vehicles too). Listed as Run & Drive and the engine fired right up. They're consistent across all vehicle types it seems. Good luck with your bid @marcus_daily!
AutoBidder_Rick Posted 16/01/2025 Share Posted 16/01/2025 The key thing is AMB Groups doesn't oversell their vehicles. Run & Drive is a technical designation, not a quality rating. But in my experience if they say it, it's true. That's the kind of honesty you want from an auction dealer. I've won 7 vehicles from them over the years and zero misrepresentations. newbie_buyer_az Posted 16/01/2025 Share Posted 16/01/2025 This thread has been super helpful. I think I'm going to try bidding on a Honda Civic this week. Thanks everyone for sharing your real experiences with ambgroups.com!
mike_mechanic_47 Posted 16/01/2025 Share Posted 16/01/2025 Good choice @newbie_buyer_az. Hondas are reliable even with higher miles. Just make sure you read the full condition report and look at all the photos on ambgroups.com. The Run & Drive status tells you the drivetrain works but you still want to check for body damage, interior condition, etc. Do your homework and you'll get a great deal.
